내 이름은 Joshua Cui입니다. 우리 가족은 스페셜한 가정입니다. 엄마와 저와 동생과 함께 살고 있습니다. 그런 이유로 경제적인 어려움이 있어 학원에 다니지 못합니다. 다행히 존마셜 고등학교 SAS 과에 입학하여 처음에는 학교가 너무 멀어 버스타고 오고가는 시간이 너무 많이 걸려 체력이 달려 숙제 하기도 힘들었으나 점진적으로 성적이 뒤 처지지 않게 공부도 하고 있어 희망이 있다는 생각이 들어 감사합니다. 또한 감사한 것은 선배의 도움으로 작년에 피아노 배워 지금은 교회에서 제 2 피아노 반주 하고 있습니다. 저의 장래 희망은 선생님이 되고 싶습니다. 특별히 수학 선생님이 되려는 강한 열망을 가지고 있었습니다. 어렸을 때 나는 선생님이 되는 것을 결코 생각하지 못했지만, 나이가 들면서 적성에 맞는 일인 것을 깨달았습니다.
저는 현재 10 학년 인 고등학생으로서, 많은 시간을 보내 왔습니다. 내가 내 시간을 투자하기로 선택한 것들은 다른 사람들과의 관계, 학교 성적과 나의 종교 생활입니다. 저는 아가페 선교 교회를 다니고 있습니다. 학교에서 보내는 시간에 나는 항상 친구들을 돕기 위해 노력하고 있습니다. 장래 희망은 중학교 선생이 되길 원합니다. 중학교 과정에서 잘 못 되는 친구들이 많이 있기 때문에 중학교 학생들을 잘 지도하고 싶습니다. 방학 때에는 여름학교를 열어 저소득 학생들을 위한 프로그램을 만들어 학업에 유익을 주게 하고 좋은 취미를 갖게 해 주고 싶습니다. 그런 이유로 저는 교회에서 계속 피아노를 배우고 있습니다. 또한 그림을 잘 그리기 때문에 학생들에게 취미 활동할 수 있도록 지도를 하고 싶습니다. 그런 계획을 갖고 있기 때문에 학원에서 여름방학 때 자원 봉사를 했습니다. 올해는 교회에서 여름성경학교 보조 선생으로 활동하려고 계획 합니다. 그 활동의 경험을 갖고 멕시코에 가서 여름 학교를 교회에서 계획한 프로그렘에 함께 참여 하고자 신청했습니다.
이번 여름에 교회에서는 다른 지역의 학생들과 함께 뉴욕 메릴렌드의 캠프 [주제: 일어나 빛을 발하라]를 위해 교회서 감사하게 비행기 티켙을 학생들에게 헌금을 통해 지원 받습니다. 하지만 참가비는 개인이 지불하는데 $300 입니다. 7월 1일부터 5일 까지 입니다. 또한
멕시코 여름학교 준비를 위한 회비는 $200입니다. 예전 같으면 말씀 못 드렸습니다. 집안이 어렵기 때문입니다. 그러던 중에 TV에서
PKTA에서 장학금 신청을 받는다고 하여 이 기회를 저는 꼭 잡고 싶어 신청합니다. 내년에는 대학교 준비를 위해 시간이 없기 때문입니다. 그런 이유로 이 번 방학을 알차고 유익하게 보내기 원합니다. 제가 어머니께 말씀드리니 좋은 계획이라고 적극적으로 함께 다니면서 2주 동안 여권도 만들었습니다. 어머님께서 기뻐 하신 것은 어려울 때 도움받은 경험이 있으면 내가 어른이 되었을 때 어려운 학생들을 돕게 될 수 있다고 말씀하셨습니다. 참고로 어머니께서는 교회에서 교육전도사를 하셨습니다. 그러면서도 내가 어릴 때부터 장애자학생들에게 주 중에 설교도 하시고 미술도 가르쳐 주었습니다. 얼마 전에는 그랜드팍 양로병원에서 할머니 할아버지들과 함께 한국과 미국 등...기도회를 일 주일에 한 번씩 가서 하셨습니다. 자주 저도 참석하였습니다. 그러는 과정에서 늘 저희 마음에도 많은 사람들을 위해 좋은 일들을 함께 격려하며 이끌어 준다면 멋지고 행복한 삶이라는 생각을 해 봤습니다. 예전에 어머님께서는 제가 어릴 때부터 함께 저소득학생들을 위해 교회에서 학생들을 모아 가르치겠다고 했으나 관심이 없었는데 대학진학을 생각하면서 선생이 되어 한국 사회를 위해 보람 된 일을 하겠다는 결심을 갖게 되었답니다. 감사합니다.
