Flow gently, sweet Afton among thy green braes,
Flow gently, I'll sing thee a song in thy praise ;
My Mary's asleep by thy murmuring stream,
Flow gently, sweet Afton, disturb not her dream.
Thou stock dove whose echo resounds thro' the glen,
Ye wild whistling blackbirds, in yon thorny den,
Thou green crested lapwing thy screaming forbear,
I charge you ,disturb not my slumbering fair.
How lofty, sweet Afton thy neighbouring hills,
Far mark;d with the courses of clear, winding rills ;
There daily I wander as noon rises high,
My flocks and my Mary's sweet cot in my eye.
How pleasant thy banks and green valleys below,
Where, wils in the woodlands, the primroses blow ;
There oft, as mild evening weeps over the lea,
The sweet -scented birk shades my Mary and me.
Thy crystal stream, Afton, how lovely it glides,
And winds by the cot where my Mary resides ;
How wanton thy waters her snowy feet lave,
As, gathering sweet flowers, she stems thy clear wave.
Flow gently, sweet Afton, among thy green braes,

아름다운 애프턴 강아, 푸른 언덕 사이로 조용히 흘러라
너를 칭찬하는 노래를 불러줄 테니 조용히 흘러라
우리 메리가 졸졸거리는 너의 소리에 잠들어 있으니
우리 아기 깨우지 말고 조용히 흘러라...
불어라 봄바람
불어라 봄바람 솔솔 불어라산 넘고 물 건너 불어오너라
나무 그늘 밑에 잠자는 아기깨우지 말고서 곱게 불어라
따뜻한 동산에 포근히 누워 나비 떼와 함께 꿈꾸며 잘 때
애처로이 그 잠 깨우지 말고가만히 솔솔솔 불어오너라
잔잔한 시냇물 졸졸 흐르고청명한 하늘엔 종달새 울제
꽃 속에 잠들어 꿈꾸는 아기깨우지 말고서 곱게 불어라
해마다 변치 않고 피는 저 꽃들나비와 벌들의 동무가 되어
솔솔 불어오는 저 바람에한데 얽히어서 춤추며 논다

조너선 스필만(Jonathan Edwards Spilman)이 작곡한 이 노래는 원래는
스코틀랜드 노래였습니다. 그 후, 미국에 있는 "애프턴 강"을 주제로 개작되어
'Flow gently sweet Afton' 이라는 미국 민요가 되었습니다.
이 곡조는 조나단 스필만이(Jonathan Edwards Spilman)이 스코틀랜드의 옛 노래를 개작한 앱튼강 Flow gently sweet Afton 곡조의 전반부로서 미국 민요가 되어버린 "앱튼강"은 우리나라에서는 불어라 봄바람 솔솔 불어라...라는 가사로 알려졌습니다.
가브리엘이 "그 어리신 예수" 가사에 맞춰 편곡하였고, 그의 노래집 "포도원의 노래" "Vineyard Songs1892"에 "APTON"이란 곡명으로 실렸습니다.
